Au Revoir Class of 2010!

What a year it's been. It almost seems like we first walked into class for the first day of school yesterday. For us, Seniors, Friday will be the first day of the beginning of our lives and we will go into the world with so much knowledge that our teachers, peers, parents, and even ourselves have taught us. We've all had our highs and lows and despite all of the negativity, stress, or pressure, we still manage to keep our heads on our shoulders. This is the time when we look back on everything that we have done to get to where we stand today, and just smile. Knowing how much we have ahead of us can be overwhelming to think about, but it's so exciting! Now is our time to experience life to it's fullest, make our own money, travel the world, anything! We will slowly let go of our parents hands, and become a person of independence. Each and everyone of you have a purpose in life. Things happen for a reason, they always do. Just remember, you will do something great in your life, you will be successful, and you will make a difference and have an effect on everyone. I am so grateful to be where I am today, I'm not quite sure what my purpose is yet, and I know i'm not the only one. This is the time where we will discover ourselves. These are the days we live for. And this is only the beginning.

Summer's Hottest Trends of 2010

1. Future Warrior

Photobucket

This is basically military fashion mashed with tribal fashion on a more savage side. You will see lots of metal plating, tunics (especially leather), chain mail in spired detailing, and tribal inspired designs.

2. Sporty Clothing

Photobucket

Pretty self-explanatory. This trend includes crop tops, baggy pants, sports-like swimwear, shoulder pads, and jersey fabrics, such as mesh.

3. Sheer

Photobucket

This has been one of the hottest trends and it seems to be getting bigger. The key to sporting this look is elegance. Do not go overboard with sheer, if you know what I mean. Keep it sexy, yet tasteful.

4. High Dress Slits

Photobucket

I love this look and I think it looks incredible on women of height. Since the gown is long and flowy and not short with the slit, it shows off the length of your toned legs without looking skanky.

5. Futuristic

Photobucket

This trend has many influences and styles such as our trend on number one. The elements of this trend range from fish and reptile scale textures, circuitry inspired patterns, metal plating, fabrics, or detailing, exaggerated silhouettes, and robotic looking features.

L'Atelier On Channel 7 News?

On the day of the fashion show I noticed the big blue Channel 7 News van in front of the gym. At first I was confused as why that was there, but when I walked into the auditorium where the show was being held and girls were practicing their walks, I saw designer Julia Viadero, and model Hadar Bar being interviewed by a news man. I thought that was so cool! He got some shots of the fourth period show and also interviewed our lovely and inspirational teacher, Mrs. Viadero.
This was such good publicity for this ROP class, and our designers. What a great opportunity!

Underwear Is Outerwear.

I'm starting to really obsess over this whole 'wearing your panties over your clothes' trend. I absolutely love it, and I plan to eventually rock this look one day. When you wear it the right way, it actually looks somewhat sophisticated in a way and of course sexy as hell. Some ways to sport this style are wearing bustiers with a pair of skinny jeans and platforms, or, what I love most, wearing a really nice bra with a high-waisted skirt, a blazer, and some heels. There's so many ways to wear lingerie as clothing, you just have to play around with it an have fun! And let us thank the Queen, Miss Blonde Ambition, who started this trend.. Madonna.

Kyle Pak!

I just wanted to thank Kyle Pak for shooting Julia's line for Spain and Scotland. I was in Julia's line for Scotland and this was such a fun shoot! Since our designs were very edgy and grungy, and our hair and make-up as well, you can say the shoot was pretty badass! Kyle is such a great photographer and I cannot wait to see the photos from this shoot as well as the other photos he shot of the other lines. Super talented, super cool, super sweet, and has incredible fashion sense. :)

*Pictures from the shoot are coming soon!*

*Also a great thanks to all of the other photographers and media, great job Friday!

We've Done It Again!

I honestly do not think I've seen so much success throughout the only two years I have been in L'Atelier's Fashion Show. I'm still stunned and the work of my peers, and may I hence the word peers. STUDENTS, Kids who are 17 and 18 years old creating designs that I would only see in magazines! I'm a pretty honest person, and I would say if there was some crappy designs or not, but honestly, everyone was on point with their sewing, hemming and what not. Very clean and well put together pieces. It was a very bittersweet show because the majority of our designers, coordinators, and models that have been working in this class for the past 3 years will be leaving into the real world in two short months.
From what we all witnessed this past Friday, April 9, 2010, we have all progressed, learned, and grew throughout our time in L'Atelier and we still continue to. Despite all of the stress, work, and fights we have all been through in the process of this show, in the end, L'atelier produces bigger and better shows each year and we all make this possible not only as a team, but as one, big fashion family.

Out With the Old, In With the New

Recently, the staff of The Boutique at L'Atelier have been making some changes that we will only benefit from. We are reconstructing the boutique, improving our communication skills, and helping promote this wonderful piece of work. With the help of our new Probational Manager, Yosef Kalfon, I know that we can really make The Boutique not only successful, but exciting for our staff and the students at Taft High School.
Yosef is one of my really close friends, and I know that he is one of the hardest workers I've met. Not only that, but he is excited to work! He takes his job at The Boutique very seriously, and because he is employed at our local Levi's, he is able to bring his knowledge and Ideas into the workplace. I am very confidant in his work this semester and I know that with his contribution, along with the hard work of the staff, The Boutique will become even bigger than what it has been in the past.

Modelesque

Photobucket

Most kids dream of becoming a doctor, veterinarian, or a firefighter, but for Laura La Rue, this was not the case. She knew that becoming a model was something she longed for.
At the tender age of 14, she was signed with one of the top agencies in the US, Elite Model Management in 2007. Some of her very first jobs included American Apparel and a spread in Salon City magazine. Laura's agency eventually wanted her to move to Singapore to sign with Diva Models, which would give her great exposure. There she shot a Sony ad that ran on billboards and buses throughout Asia. One of her biggest accomplishments was strutting her stuff in Chanel's Spring/Summer 07' line, this would be her first runway show, and what an insane opportunity! From that point on Laura's exposure has drawn the attention of more agencies like LA and New York Models. Photographers such as David LaChapelle, Ninelle Efremova, Nate Jenson, and Jennifer Star. Designers like BeBe, Ed Hardy, Jeremy Scott, and has now been the muse for the up and coming designer David Alexander.

Laura is now currently living on her own in the heart of West Hollywood and continues to live out her true life fairy tale

Hair Care Tips

For me, having healthy hair is very important. It is a sign of youth, beauty, and fertility. I always dream of having thick, long, lushes hair, so I do as much as I can to help promote growth. These are some ways I keep my hair in shape.
Limit the use of hot tools. I iron and blow dry my hair about once or twice a month. If you are constantly applying heat to your tresses, it will cause your hair to weaken and damage. That causes split ends and dryness. Make sure to use low heat when using hot tools and remember to add a heat protecting serum before styling.
Nutrition! Having a diet rich in vitamin b, omega, and fish oils will help make your locks shine. Leafy, dark greens, fruits, and whole grains should be a part of your daily eats. Basically, when your diet is healthy, it shows through your hair and skin as well! I take a daily hair, skin, and nail vitamin which I bought at a Whole Foods. Don't forget to drink plenty of water!
Photobucket
Create your own hair mask! This is something that I absolutely love doing. I make all types of masks including honey & milk masks, avocado masks, and my personal favorite, the mayonnaise mask! This really works, it makes my hair ultra smooth and super shiny!
Like me, if you have biracial hair you should only wash it once a week with a moisturizing shampoo. Washing your hair everyday will cause it to dry out. This also applies for super curly or african hair. Never brush your hair dry! This will break your curls and cause your hair to frizz. Just stick to finger combing and brush it out when you wash it. Add a little conditioner in your hair to define your curls.
Lastly, you should get a trim every 6 to 8 weeks to loose the dead ends and prevent even more breakage.
By following these rules, you should have the hair you've always desired!

March Maddness

The show is April 9th! And we have so much to do.
There are so many fit meeting, and walk rehersals coming up. All designers close are due my March 5th, including shoes and accessories... hope they can all make that deadline. Set designers have lots of work to do as well. Hair and make-up artist have styles to master, and lots to practice. And to think everything must be done by spring break!
Ready, Set.. GO!

Color me Bright

This spring/summer i decided to switch my swagger up. As far as my make-up during this time of the year i tend to stick to earthy tones: Golds, bronzers, browns, and deep greens. But this year i've decided to add a little pop to my eyes, but still keep that fresh summer glow. All you have to do is wear the usual gold eyeshadow on your upper eye lids, and for your bottom liner use a bright colored shimmer eyeshadow. My personal favorites are royal blues, shimmery plums, and greens. Try to stay away from yellow eyeshadows on the bottom lash line because that color does not go well with the whites of the eye. Now that that's done all you have to do is add your favorite mascara and blush and you're good to go.

Feed the Models?

I really hope that L'Atlier will reconsider buying doughnuts for the models and instead, buy fresh fruit. Not only is it delicious, but it is healthy and non-bloating for you. I understand that it may be cheaper, but if people bring a few things of packaged party sized fruit bowls, we would be set! It's only my opinion, just a thought!

One More Month!

It's crunch time for designers and models, for the Fashion Show is near! Designers are having to meet more and more deadlines, meetings, and fittings in such little time. Models are continuing to practice their walks and running through the show rehearsals. Not only is the pressure in for designers, but also for make-up artists and event planners. It's that time of year again where L'Atelier students are able to show their art, skills, and talent through an amazing runway show.

Not so Winter.. Wonderland.

A few weeks ago Tiahna and I had a photo shoot @ school modeling some winter coats and accessories from the boutique. We were hoping that the weather would at least show some kind of sign of winter but that was a fail when we walked outside and the sun was beaming. Anyways I managed to find a bootleg picture of a Snowman that one of my fellow students drew posted up on a wall by a vending machine. That's as wintery as it gets when you live in California :)

Welcome :)

Hello lovies! This blog is a collaboration between two high school seniors, Symone Evans and Tiahna Shoemaker. We've decided to create this blog to promote our fabulous Fashion program at Taft high school. Our program is called L' Atelier, and we not only focus on fashion design but we learn about sales and retail. Unlike most schools we have a Boutique, The Boutique @ L' Atelier, where we resale clothes and learn how to manage and style. Not only will we be updating you with our latest new in our class, but we'll have weekly updates on what we think is hot in fashion, health, beauty, and music. So Enjoy!
